ShanghaiRanking Consultancy
ARWU, often called the Shanghai Ranking, ranks research universities worldwide using six bibliometric and award indicators, publishing the top 1,000 of more than 2,500 screened. It is the oldest of the major global university rankings and is used as a measure of research strength, especially in science and medicine.
Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), Leiden University
The CWTS Leiden Ranking reports bibliometric indicators for major research universities worldwide, such as publication output (P) and the share of highly cited papers (PP(top 10%)), without collapsing them into one score. Research managers and analysts use it as a transparent, data-only view of research volume, impact and collaboration.
Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), Leiden University
The Open Edition of the CWTS Leiden Ranking computes the Leiden bibliometric indicators from open OpenAlex data, so results can be fully reproduced. It covers far more universities than the Traditional Edition (over 2,800 in 2025).
Center for World University Rankings
CWUR ranks the top 2,000 of more than 20,000 universities using outcome measures for alumni, faculty and research, without surveys or university-submitted data. It is smaller in profile than QS, THE and ARWU but offers the widest published list among them.
Financial Times
The Financial Times ranks the top 100 full-time MBA programs worldwide each year, largely on alumni salary outcomes and career progress three years after graduation. It is one of the most-cited international MBA rankings and heavily watched by European and Asian schools.
Nature Index (Springer Nature)
Nature Index Research Leaders are annual tables ranking institutions and countries by their output of articles in a selected list of high-quality journals over one calendar year. Readers use the academic table as a hard-data signal of research strength, and it has tracked the rise of Chinese universities past most Western peers.

The QS World University Rankings rank about 1,500 universities worldwide, with half the weight on research and discovery and large weights on academic and employer reputation surveys. It is the most widely viewed global table among prospective international students and is often cited by governments and universities in marketing and visa policy.
Reuters
Reuters ranked the 100 universities it judged most innovative, combining patent activity with how often their research was cited in patents and papers. It ran from 2015 to 2019 and is useful mainly as a historical reference for tech-transfer strength.
SCImago Research Group
SCImago Institutions Rankings rank research-producing institutions worldwide on a composite of research, innovation and societal indicators, with a separate higher-education table. It stands out for its innovation factor, drawn from patent data, and its very broad coverage of more than 5,000 universities.
Times Higher Education
The THE World University Rankings rank more than 2,000 research-intensive universities using 18 indicators on teaching, research, citations, industry links and international outlook. It is one of the three most cited global tables and is often used by governments and universities alongside QS and ARWU.
U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News' Best Global Universities ranks more than 2,000 research universities in over 100 countries on 13 indicators of research performance and global and regional reputation. It is separate from U.S. News' domestic college rankings and is used mainly as a research-strength benchmark.
Contrarian Ventures
An annual list of the 50 most impactful climate tech investors worldwide, organized by climate VCs Contrarian Ventures and 2150 with Dealroom data. It blends investment activity, exits and portfolio valuations (85%) with a public vote (15%) and names category winners (early stage, growth, corporate, emerging, public favourite).
Sifted
Sifted's recurring ranking of the investors that made the most equity investments in European startups, published for each half-year and full year (with quarterly and sector cuts on its Pro rankings pages). It is a widely watched signal of who is writing checks in Europe.
Longevity Investors Conference
A top 10 of investors by number of deals in the longevity sector, published on the Longevity Investors Conference blog in July 2025 as part of a longevity investment landscape report. It gives founders a quick list of the most frequent backers of aging-related companies.

PitchBook's top 10 of investors by number of AI agent deals since 2019, published in December 2025. It shows which firms have backed the most startups building or selling AI agents.

A recurring Crunchbase News article, written by fintech editor Mary Ann Azevedo, that names the investors that took part in the most global fintech funding rounds in a quarter or year. It reports several cuts: all rounds, rounds of $5 million or more, $100 million+ leads, seed and post-seed leads.

A performance ranking of the top 100 US-based VC firms by Stanford GSB professor Ilya Strebulaev and Blake Jackson, built from more than 230,000 investments by nearly 13,000 venture capitalists over a 30-year window. Founders and LPs use it as a data-driven alternative to reputation lists such as the Forbes Midas List.

An interactive Dealroom chart ranking the investors that backed the most German venture rounds in a half-year. It is one of a set of country cuts (France, UK, North of England, Germany, Netherlands, Nordics, Italy, Spain) and shows which public, VC, corporate and accelerator investors are most active in German startups.
Endpoints News
An annual ranking of the 100 most active venture investors in private biotech rounds, produced by Endpoints News with data from DealForma. Investors are ranked by the capital in new funding rounds they joined in the prior year, and the list is a common reference for biotech founders mapping the investor landscape.
CTVC (Climate Tech VC)
A chart of the most active climate tech investors by deal count included in CTVC's annual Climate Tech Investment Trends report (now produced with Sightline Climate). It is a reference for founders looking for the busiest climate investors by stage.
Forbes
Forbes' annual ranking of the 100 venture investors with the strongest recent track records, scored on exits and private-company markups in their portfolios. It is the most widely cited individual-investor league table in venture capital and is often used as shorthand for a partner's standing.

An annual unranked list of 100 private AI companies that CB Insights considers most promising, grouped into market categories. Investors and corporate scouts use it as a deal-sourcing and trend signal; winners use it as a credential.
CNBC
CNBC's annual ranked list of 50 private companies using technology to challenge established industries. It is one of the most visible late-stage startup lists in U.S. business media and its No. 1 pick draws wide coverage.
Deloitte
An annual ranking of the 500 fastest-growing technology, media, telecom, life sciences, fintech and energy tech companies in North America, ordered purely by percentage revenue growth over a multiyear window. Founders and investors use it as a growth credential, and honorees widely publicize their rank.
Fast Company (Mansueto Ventures)
Fast Company's annual editorial ranking of the 50 companies it judges most innovative worldwide, published alongside dozens of sector top-10 lists. It is a high-visibility media accolade rather than a data-driven ranking, used mainly as a brand and recruiting credential.
Forbes
An annual, unranked list of 50 privately held AI companies that Forbes, with Sequoia Capital and Meritech Capital, judges most promising. It is a closely watched signal of which AI startups top-tier investors and editors consider category leaders.

An annual ranking of the top 100 private cloud and software companies worldwide, produced by Forbes with Bessemer Venture Partners and Salesforce Ventures. Founders and investors use it as a marker of late-stage private software leaders and likely IPO candidates.
LinkedIn News
LinkedIn's annual ranking of the 50 U.S. startups growing and attracting talent fastest, based on LinkedIn member activity. It is useful to founders and job seekers as a hiring-momentum signal rather than a measure of financial performance.
TIME
A TIME and Statista list of the 80 best U.S. incubators and accelerators, scored mostly on alumni survey responses. It mixes national accelerators (Techstars, MassChallenge, Y Combinator), university programs and regional nonprofits, and gives a founder-satisfaction view rather than an outcomes view.
Seed Accelerator Rankings Project (Yael Hochberg, Rice University)
An academic ranking of U.S. seed accelerators led by Rice University professor Yael Hochberg with Susan Cohen and Daniel Fehder, backed by MIT, the University of Richmond and later the University of Georgia. It placed roughly 15 to 31 programs per year into tiers (Platinum+ down to Silver or Bronze) based on confidential portfolio outcome data and alumni surveys. Founders used it as one of the few data-driven, non-commercial comparisons of accelerator outcomes.
CB Insights
A CB Insights research report ranking the 50 accelerators that backed the most deals from 2020 to 2022, based on its own funding database. It measures deal volume, not quality or outcomes, and highlights Plug and Play, Y Combinator and Techstars as the most active.
Beta Boom
A blog ranking by pre-seed fund Beta Boom of 50 U.S. accelerators by exit rate, meaning the share of portfolio companies acquired or taken public according to Crunchbase. It deliberately contrasts with brand-driven lists: Y Combinator and Techstars do not reach its top 20.
UBI Global
A Stockholm-based membership organization's ranking of business incubators and accelerators, built from data programs submit to its World Benchmark Study. Winners are named 'World Top' by category (university or public/private, incubator or accelerator) and 'Top Challengers' by region. It is the only long-running global incubator ranking, and university incubators often cite it in press releases.
Forbes
Forbes' annual list of 600 people under 30, 30 in each of 20 categories, spanning founders, investors, creators and others. In venture circles the Venture Capital category is a widely watched early-career signal for associates, principals and emerging fund managers.
Oxford Economics
Oxford Economics ranks the world's 1,000 largest cities on economics, human capital, quality of life, environment and governance, drawing on its own city economic forecasts. It is the broadest global city ranking by coverage and gives heavy weight to economic size and growth prospects.
Kearney
Kearney's Global Cities Index ranks about 158 of the world's largest cities on their current global reach across business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience and political engagement. It is published alongside a forward-looking Global Cities Outlook and is one of the longest-running global city rankings.
Z/Yen Group (Long Finance)
The GFCI rates about 117 financial centres twice a year on competitiveness, combining an online survey of finance professionals with 140+ quantitative indices. It is the most widely quoted ranking of financial centres and is used by city promotion agencies and the financial press.
StartupBlink
StartupBlink's annual index scores the startup ecosystems of more than 1,500 cities (and separately 120 countries) on the quantity and quality of startup activity and the business environment. Its breadth makes it the usual reference for mid-size and smaller cities that do not appear in top-40 rankings.
Startup Genome
Startup Genome's annual report ranks the top 40 startup ecosystems worldwide (plus a Top 100 of emerging ecosystems) on exits, ecosystem value, funding, talent and market reach. It is one of the most cited ecosystem rankings among governments and ecosystem builders, who use it to benchmark cities.
Dealroom.co
Dealroom's index ranks 325 city tech ecosystems through three lenses: Global Champions (absolute scale), Density Leaders (per capita) and Rising Stars (growth). It draws on Dealroom's startup, funding and valuation database, which many governments already use for ecosystem reporting.
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
WIPO's ranking of the world's top 100 innovation clusters, published with the Global Innovation Index, locates concentrations of inventors, scientific authors and venture-backed companies regardless of city or national borders. It is the main hard-data benchmark of where patenting and science happen, and cities often cite their cluster rank.
Bloomberg L.P. (Bloomberg News)
A Bloomberg News ranking of national innovation built from seven equally weighted hard-data metrics such as R&D intensity, patents and high-tech company density. Published roughly annually from 2013 to 2021, it was widely quoted in the press, with South Korea first in most years.
World Bank Group
B-READY is the World Bank's replacement for Doing Business: it scores economies from 0 to 100 on three pillars (regulatory framework, public services, operational efficiency) across 10 topics, without an overall ranking. The pilot covered 50 economies in 2024 and the 2025 report 101, with about 180 planned.
World Bank Group
The World Bank's Doing Business report ranked up to 190 economies on the ease of doing business for a local small or medium firm, from starting a company to resolving insolvency. It was the most influential business-climate ranking of its era until it was discontinued in 2021 after an investigation found data manipulation in the 2018 and 2020 editions.
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
The Global Innovation Index ranks around 130 to 140 economies on innovation inputs and outputs using about 80 indicators. Published by WIPO (earlier with INSEAD and Cornell University), it is the most widely cited cross-country innovation ranking and is referenced in national policy plans in several countries.
StartupBlink
The country ranking of StartupBlink's annual Global Startup Ecosystem Index, which aggregates the scores of each country's ranked cities and a national business-environment component across 120 countries. It is widely cited by governments to benchmark national startup policy.
IMD World Competitiveness Center (IMD Business School)
The IMD World Competitiveness Ranking scores about 70 economies on how well they create conditions for businesses and long-term prosperity. Published every June by IMD Business School's World Competitiveness Center in Lausanne since 1989, it is one of the two long-running global competitiveness rankings and, since the WEF paused its Global Competitiveness Report, the main one still published.
