5AM Ventures Fellowship

The 5AM Ventures Fellowship is a paid, full-time role that provides hands-on experience in both venture creation and venture capital at one of the leading early-stage biotech investment firms. Founded in 2002, 5AM Ventures manages approximately $1.1 billion in regulatory assets under management and invests through its current vehicles: Fund VII ($450 million) and Opportunities II ($300 million).

5AM Ventures focuses on early-stage therapeutics and aims to create new biotech companies from scientific breakthroughs. The fellowship provides exposure to both evaluating existing companies and building new ventures around scientific discoveries.

Candidates should highlight their relevant experience in life sciences or computer science, particularly any hands-on experience with AI/ML in healthcare. Networking with alumni and current fellows can provide valuable insights.

For the AI Fellowship: strong computer science background with hands-on life sciences/healthcare AI/ML experience, or a life sciences background with robust ML methods expertise. Currently enrolled in or recently completed graduate or post-graduate training (PhD, MD, or equivalent). For the standard fellowship: strong life sciences background with interest in venture capital and company building. Based in or willing to relocate to Boston for the duration.

The fellowship is open to candidates with strong life sciences or computer science backgrounds. Applicants should be based in or willing to relocate to Boston for the duration of the fellowship.

Paid fellowship (specific stipend amount not publicly disclosed). Benefits include full-time immersion in both venture creation and venture capital, direct work with the investment team on active deals, exposure to 5AM's $1.1B AUM platform, career support and networking (past fellows have transitioned to full-time VC and biotech roles), and experience with the 4:59 Initiative's venture creation methodology.

The fellowship lasts approximately six months, typically structured as a first-half or second-half of the year engagement.

Past fellows have successfully transitioned to full-time positions in venture capital, biotech operating roles, business development, and healthcare consulting.
