The University of Michigan Social Venture Fund (SVF) is the first student-run social venture fund in the United States, established in 2009. SVF invests in and supports innovative companies that place social impact at the heart of their business model, fostering growth of enterprises addressing societal needs insufficiently served by traditional markets. SVF operates as a student-led fund of nearly 50 MBAs, BBAs, and JDs, many of whom are dual-degree students, conducting real investment activities including deal sourcing, evaluation, due diligence, and portfolio management.

SVF focuses on investing in companies that prioritize social impact, addressing societal needs that are often overlooked by traditional markets. The fund aims to empower future leaders in social entrepreneurship through practical investment experience.
The program accepts 15-25 new investment associates each fall. Interested students can apply through the University of Michigan's application process.
This program does not provide any financial compensation to its associates.
There is no cost to participate in the program.
The program runs annually with a fall intake for new associates.
Associates are expected to dedicate 10-15 hours per week to the program.
The program requires in-person participation at the University of Michigan.
