The Hillfarrance Scout Programme provides 10 exceptional New Zealanders with NZD 100,000 each toward identifying and co-investing in venture-stage startups worthy of investment. Created to identify and support the venture capital leaders of the future, Hillfarrance positions scouts as potential future colleagues as the fund expands. As a competitive venture capital firm typically investing at seed and Series A rounds, Hillfarrance created the scout program to develop knowledge of startup teams and investment opportunities even earlier in the company lifecycle. Total Scout Fund involves 50-100 investments over 3-5 years.

The 2021 evaluation reported an investment allocation of $100,000 per initial scout, with the dollar notation used in a New Zealand context; it does not establish the currency as USD. Hillfarrance supplied the capital, which was for investing on its behalf rather than personal pay.

The evaluation described Hillfarrance and the scout deciding jointly whether to proceed after due diligence.
