Scout Program
AirTree Ventures is one of the largest and most active early-stage venture capital firms in Australia and New Zealand, with a portfolio of 100+ companies including Canva, Go1, Employment Hero, Pet Circle, Immutable, and Linktree. The firm's Explorer Program is its primary community and deal sourcing initiative, designed to cultivate the next generation of angel investors in Australia and New Zealand.
The Explorer Program operates as a structured angel investing education and community, rather than a traditional scout program with per-deal referral fees. Explorers receive weekly online workshops led by AirTree Partners and industry experts, community catchups, in-person learning sessions in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, access to the Explorers angel investment syndicate, and opportunities to co-invest alongside AirTree's funds. The program provides participating Explorers with capital to invest, functioning as a micro-fund structure where participants learn by doing.
The time commitment is approximately 1.5 hours per week, with flexibility for additional involvement. Cohort sessions run on a fixed schedule (for example, the 2025 cohort runs Fridays from August 15 to October 3, 12:00pm-1:30pm AEST). The program has graduated 480+ Explorers across at least 9 cohorts, building one of the most significant angel investor networks in the Australia/New Zealand region.

The program's dual function is notable: it trains new angel investors while simultaneously extending AirTree's deal sourcing reach into communities and networks the firm's partners might not otherwise access. By empowering a large network of educated angels, AirTree effectively creates a distributed scouting operation where Explorers identify and co-invest in early-stage companies.
Open to aspiring angel investors in Australia and New Zealand. No prior investing experience required. The program explicitly targets diversity and inclusion, aiming to bring underrepresented groups into early-stage investing. Prospective participants complete an Expression of Interest form.
Free program. Explorers receive structured investing education, access to the AirTree Explorers angel syndicate with capital to invest, co-investment opportunities alongside AirTree's funds, in-person events in major Australian cities, and a network of 480+ fellow angel investors. No separate cash compensation is disclosed.
The program is free for participants.
The program runs for approximately 8 weeks per cohort. Cohort sessions run on a fixed schedule, for example, the 2025 cohort runs Fridays from August 15 to October 3, 12:00pm-1:30pm AEST.
The time commitment is approximately 1.5 hours per week, with flexibility for additional involvement.
The program operates in a hybrid format, with both online and in-person components in major Australian cities.
