Blackbird Foundry is an 8-week launchpad program designed specifically for researchers developing science-led startup ideas. The program bridges the gap between academic research and startup creation, providing researchers with the tools, mentorship, and funding to translate cutting-edge science into commercial ventures.
The fellowship combines structured curriculum, mentor networks, and direct financial support to accelerate science-based startup development. Participants work on preliminary startup ideas with access to 200+ members of the builder community, including frontier tech founders and experienced operators. The program emphasizes practical startup skills alongside research rigor, recognizing that scientific breakthroughs require both technical excellence and commercial viability.
Free participation coupled with $1,000 in non-dilutive funding per team and $5,000 for the winning final pitch create financial accessibility while incentivizing excellent execution. Cohort participants are selected in rolling fashion, allowing continuous onboarding of promising research teams.
