Accel Starters Europe

Accel Starters Europe is Accel's European scout program, launched in 2021 after Accel had already run a U.S. scout program since 2017. It began with 21 scouts across 12 cities and 10 countries, including operators from Personio, Tier, Monzo, Algolia, Deliveroo, sennder, Google Romania, Rows, Oyster, and Tines. Each European Starter was reported to receive USD 200,000 to invest in European startups, with average checks around USD 20,000 and no required quota or fixed deployment pace. Scouts receive carry in the fund, plus an additional undisclosed benefit if Accel later leads a round into a scout-backed company.

Accel Starters Europe aims to empower high-signal operators to invest in early-stage companies across Europe. The program focuses on individuals with operational experience and unique networks, allowing them to identify exceptional founding teams early. By leveraging a distributed operator network, Accel extends its institutional capital to the earliest stages of company formation.

Designed for Scouts, Investors, Founders, Operators. The program is remote. Participation is generally part time.

Scouts are selected based on their operational experience and ability to identify exceptional founding teams early. They must be high-signal operators with demonstrated founder empathy.

By invitation only through Accel partner nomination. Scouts are repeat founders, senior operators at breakout European scale-ups, or individuals with unique founder-facing networks across European markets.

Participants gain access to approximately $200,000 in deployment capital, investment autonomy, and the ability to leverage Accel's global network and resources.

The program operates over a 2-3 year capital deployment window, with scouts added on a rolling basis through Accel partner nominations.

Named scouts from the European cohort include Rahma Javed (Deliveroo's director of engineering), David Nothacker (co-founder and CEO of Sennder), Dan Oros (head of marketing at Google and YouTube in Romania), and Humberto Ayres Pereira (founder and CEO of Rows). Early investments from the European scout network include Young Platform (a cryptocurrency platform that raised a EUR 3.5M Series A), Airbank (a Berlin-based fintech that closed a EUR 2.5M seed round), and Remi (a remote team-culture platform that raised a EUR 1.2M seed round).
