Where startups are forming across Taiwan: the cities, accelerators and investors, and how you get close to them.
SMESA’s 2024 White Paper reports 9,576 startups nationwide at the end of 2024. Separately, SMESA reports 555 startup investment deals totaling US$2.774 billion in 2025, with an average deal amount of about US$5 million.
FINDIT displayed 11,100 startup records and 1,605 investor records for January 2015 through July 2026; its startup database includes ventures participating in entrepreneurship activities, public programs, startup bases, accelerators, or incubators. This is distinct from the White Paper’s year-end registered-startup count.
SMESA reports that AI startups raised US$569 million in 2025, nearly 80 percent more than the prior year, while semiconductor startup investment reached US$442 million, up more than 70 percent. The White Paper associates Northern Taiwan with finance, smart retail, digital content, biotechnology, and electronic technology; Central Taiwan with precision machinery, smart manufacturing, automation equipment, and IoT; and Southern Taiwan with semiconductors.

Use the regional counts and sector descriptions as distinct location signals: Taipei City has the largest listed city count, while Central Taiwan is associated with manufacturing and automation sectors and Southern Taiwan with semiconductors. The White Paper’s regional figures total 179 fewer startups than its national headline, so retain that discrepancy when using the counts.
