Overview

The Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) Program at the U.S. Department of Energy brings venture capital-sponsored entrepreneurs into DOE National Laboratories to develop business cases and commercialization plans for promising clean energy technologies developed by the labs.

The program operates at three primary DOE National Laboratories: National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), Sandia National Laboratory, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. EIRs work directly with technical management and laboratory staff to identify commercialization opportunities for breakthrough energy technologies.
