Backstage Capital is a venture capital firm dedicated to addressing the significant funding gap for entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds. Founded in 2015 by Arlan Hamilton, the firm operates with a dual mission: directly invest in high-potential founders from underestimated communities and create support infrastructure for these founders to thrive. The Backstage Accelerator is a 3-month program designed to provide founders from underrepresented backgrounds with capital, mentorship, operational support, and network access needed to reach their next critical milestone.

Backstage Capital aims to bridge the funding gap for underrepresented founders by providing capital, mentorship, and a supportive community. The program focuses on founders who identify as women, people of color, and/or LGBTQ, recognizing their potential and addressing the systemic barriers they face in accessing venture capital.
Currently, applications are closed. Check back in 2025 for any new announcements.
Participants receive $100,000 in seed funding for 5% equity, along with mentorship and operational support.
There is no cost to participants; capital is provided.
The accelerator program lasts for 3 months, with periodic cohorts.
The program requires a full-time commitment over the 3-month duration.
The accelerator operates in multiple locations including Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, and London, adapting to local market conditions.
