Fellowship
The Africa Impact Investing Fellowship is AVPA’s flagship capacity‑building programme for professionals who allocate or manage capital for social and environmental returns. Delivered fully online from early September to the first week of December, the fellowship guides participants through eight sequential modules covering strategy design, pipeline development, due diligence, deal structuring, portfolio management and impact measurement.
Each cohort is capped at 30 fellows drawn from foundations, DFIs, family offices, corporates, venture funds and public‑sector agencies. Learning is anchored in weekly three‑hour live workshops led by seasoned African impact investors and supplemented by readings, case studies and peer‑to‑peer clinics. Fellows work in syndicate teams to apply classroom frameworks to a live investment opportunity, culminating in an investment‑committee simulation on the programme’s final day.
Graduates join the pan‑African AVPA Impact Investors Network, gaining access to quarterly deal‑share calls, research briefs and preferential rates for AVPA conferences. Since launching in 2020 the fellowship has trained more than 120 capital deployers from 18 countries who collectively steward over USD 2 billion in assets.

Applications open each June and close in early August. Candidates submit a résumé, short motivation statement and a reference letter. Selection favours professionals who currently influence capital allocation and can commit to completing all eight modules. Cohort size is restricted to maintain interactive learning.
Tuition for the 2023 cohort was USD 1 500, payable in two instalments. A limited number of 50 percent scholarships were offered to representatives of grassroots funds and non‑profit asset owners. Fees cover all teaching materials, facilitation and post‑programme alumni services; there are no hidden platform or certification charges.
Fellows do not receive stipends or carry. The programme’s value lies in practical instruction, deal exposure and network access; any follow‑on opportunities—such as co‑invest invites—are pursued independently by graduates.
