MIT Venture Mentoring Service (VMS)

MIT Venture Mentoring Service (VMS) is a free, confidential mentoring service providing experienced entrepreneurial guidance to MIT community members (students, alumni, faculty, and staff) in the Boston area. Since its founding, VMS has developed one of the world's most robust venture mentoring ecosystems, with a network of nearly 200 experienced volunteer mentors. Entrepreneurs are paired with groups of 2-5 mentors, receiving tailored advice across various domains including product development, marketing, finance, and more. The program emphasizes confidentiality and conflict-free guidance, making it a valuable resource for those looking to navigate the startup landscape.

The MIT Venture Mentoring Service aims to foster entrepreneurship within the MIT community by providing access to experienced mentors who can offer practical, actionable guidance. The program focuses on supporting ventures at various stages of development, helping entrepreneurs navigate challenges in product development, marketing, finance, and more. By leveraging a diverse pool of mentors, VMS addresses the unique needs of startups and promotes a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Applicants are encouraged to clearly articulate their venture's needs and how mentoring can assist them. Engaging actively with mentors and participating in additional program offerings can enhance the mentoring experience.

The program is open to all members of the MIT community, including students, alumni, faculty, and staff, who are seeking entrepreneurial guidance.

To apply, visit vms.mit.edu/application and fill out a brief online form describing your venture and mentoring needs. MIT affiliation verification is required, and decisions are typically made within one week.

Participants receive access to a network of nearly 200 experienced mentors, team mentoring sessions, monthly pitch opportunities, and various workshops and boot camps tailored to their needs.

Mentoring meetings can be scheduled as needed, with additional opportunities for engagement through monthly snapshot pitch sessions and boot camps held during January MIT IAP.

VMS has supported numerous successful ventures, leading to multiple IPOs, high-profile exits, and the creation of billion-dollar companies. The program has assisted over 3,500 ventures and 4,800 entrepreneurs, with a high rate of funding success among participants.
