Amazon Lab126 Diversity in Robotics and AI PhD Fellowship

The Amazon Lab126 Diversity in Robotics and AI PhD Fellowship is a University of Maryland graduate fellowship established in September 2020 by Amazon Lab126 and the Maryland Robotics Center. The official Maryland Robotics Center page says the program supports merit-based fellowships for two or more Ph.D. students in robotics each year, with research areas including mobile robotics, robot motion planning, computer vision, pedestrian tracking, and machine learning.

The program backs UMD Ph.D. research in robotics and AI, especially mobile robotics, robot motion planning, computer vision, pedestrian tracking, machine learning, human-robot interaction, and autonomous navigation. It also explicitly aims to increase participation by women and underrepresented minority students in robotics.

Designed for Students, Researchers, Builders. The program is in person. Participation is generally full time.

Public materials identify recipients as University of Maryland Ph.D. students in robotics-related fields. The fellowship is aimed at outstanding Ph.D. students who demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion and research excellence in robotics, AI, autonomy, computer vision, motion planning, pedestrian tracking, and machine learning.

Public pages do not describe an open application. Official coverage says the fellowship supports outstanding Ph.D. students who have demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and research excellence; named recipients appear to be selected from UMD Ph.D. programs affiliated with Maryland Robotics Center faculty.

Recipients receive merit-based fellowship support for robotics and AI Ph.D. research. UMD's 2021 recipient story says the fellowship provides merit-based support and may include an invitation to a summer internship at Amazon Lab126. It also gives recipients visibility through the Maryland Robotics Center and Clark School of Engineering.
