Harvard first for the 22nd consecutive year, followed by Stanford and MIT. The United States had 38 top-100 universities, mainland China 13 and the United Kingdom 8; mainland China had 203 universities in the top 1,000 versus 183 for the United States. Six universities newly entered the top 100, including Wuhan, Xi'an Jiaotong and Sichuan universities.
