For the Grade 12 route, applicants must be in Grade 12 in the application year, be South African citizens, and meet the academic thresholds: at least 60% in Grade 11 Pure Mathematics or 80% in Mathematical Literacy, plus a final Grade 11 average of at least 70% excluding Life Orientation. Applicants must intend to study in specified faculties at WITS, UJ, UCT, NMU, RU, UWC, SU, UP, UFS, UKZN, or TSiBA; Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Dentistry are excluded. The official web page says applicants must be under 21, while the 2026 application PDF says not older than 21, so eligibility at exactly 21 is unclear.
The 2026 university nomination route was for first-year students at partner universities, including expanded degree programmes. It required a 65% average after the first semester of 2026, candidates to be no older than 22 in 2026, and an operating for-profit or nonprofit venture or work on a viable idea. These are route-specific requirements, not a combined checklist for every applicant.
