Why accelerator people make unusually good scouts

You see traction before it is public

Batch companies report weekly. You watch a number move for three months before it shows up in a press release or a funding announcement. By the time an outside investor can see the same slope, the round is usually crowded.

Your judgment is calibrated by volume

Most people evaluate a handful of companies a year. You see a cohort at a time, side by side, under the same conditions. That comparison set is the thing scout programs cannot train and cannot buy.

Founders already trust you

A warm introduction from someone who watched the company get built reads differently from a cold forward. That trust is the asset. It is also the thing to protect, which is why the disclosure rules below are not optional.

The path differs by seat, mostly in what you are allowed to share and when.

Questions people in accelerator seats ask

Is scouting a conflict of interest with my accelerator role?
It can be, and that is a question for your program, not for us. The general rule people apply: confidential batch information never travels, you disclose the scout relationship to both sides before you refer anyone, and you do not refer a company whose terms you are also negotiating. Several accelerators have written policies. Ask for yours before you accept a seat.
Do I need permission from the accelerator?
Usually yes, and getting it in writing is the version that protects you. Programs that allow it tend to want the disclosure documented rather than the activity stopped.
Do accelerators run their own scout programs?
Some do. The count on this page is the number we have documented, and it is small relative to the number of accelerators, because most scout programs are run by funds rather than by accelerators. Both are listed in the directory.
What does a scout actually get paid?
Most commonly a share of carry on deals they source, which pays years later and only if the deal works. Some programs pay a stipend instead. Where a program has disclosed its terms, the program entry shows them. Where it has not, we leave a blank rather than guess.
Can Superscout get me a scout seat?
No. We document programs and make your track record legible. Programs choose their scouts.
