A ACIC... Sua história já remontava desde 1973, quando jovens empresários reuniram-se em um prédio, antigo cinema de Contagem, para criarem a tão sonhada entidade. Segundo o - já falecido - empresário José Quintão Romero, na época, ele e outros empresários concorriam as eleições para a presidência da ACIC, sendo ele eleito com 76 votos contra 16 concorrentes. "Mas devido à conotação política, a associação não deu certo", revelou. Em 13 de julho de 1983 encerravam-se as atividades da distrital e a Associação Comercial e Industrial de Contagem (ACIC) era fundada. Como grande incentivadora, em 18 de agosto do mesmo ano, a AC-Minas doava utensílios e móveis para que a ACIC pudesse dar seus primeiros passos rumo ao futuro. ACIC HOJE Assentado no sopé de uma pequena elevação na Av. Olímpio Garcia, a poucos metros da Av. João César, o sereno prédio onde funciona sua sede, contempla a Praça Nossa Senhora da Glória, erguendo-se em sua forte estrutura metálica, todo envidraçado e austero, augurando e lutando pela empresa, pelo empreendedorismo e pela riqueza de contagem e também do país. Sua missão é contribuir para o desenvolvimento sustentável por meio do associativismo e da interatividade entre a classe empresarial com os poderes públicos e as entidades privadas.
