Program details

At award time, check that the applicant can meet MLSC’s stated work-hour limits and that the company’s total dilutive financing from angels, venture capitalists, or institutional investors is within the $5 million cap. MLSC warns that submitted application information may be disclosed under public-records law, subject to exceptions. Applicants may label proprietary materials Confidential, but that label does not itself establish an exemption; MLSC General Counsel determines whether one applies.

Admissions and application

MLSC describes a process of administrative screening, external review, finalist business-plan presentations, and Board approval. Its standard agreement must be executed substantially as provided, with non-negotiable conditions. MLSC does not promise reimbursement of application-preparation costs, and submitting an application does not guarantee an award.

Timeline

MLSC describes a year-long support period. The published 2026 application period opened March 16 and closed June 12, 2026, at 1 p.m., labeled EST by MLSC; that deadline has passed. Grant funds must be used within no more than twelve months.

What came of it

In its March 9, 2026 announcement, MLSC reported 39 MassNextGen portfolio companies, 19 prior awardees with seed or Series A financing, and more than $401 million in portfolio follow-on funding. These figures are reported by the program operator, not an independently audited success rate.

  2. Have something to show

Programs pick people whose work they can already point to. Put yours where it can be found.

  3. Apply the way the program asks

The program has not published how to apply. Terms and dates change. Check the official page before you act.
