This role is a true n of 1: you will be the company's dedicated commercial legal lead, operating as both a hands-on individual contributor on CFS's most complex, mission-critical transactions and the architect of the legal infrastructure that will support the company's next phase of commercial growth. As CFS scales, you will be expected to build and lead a team in commercial and corporate legal, making this as much a leadership opportunity as a technical legal one. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, you will partner with executive leaders across commercial and business development, corporate development, strategic partnerships, supply chain, finance, and engineering — giving you direct visibility into, and influence over, the company's most consequential strategic decisions

Commonwealth Fusion Systems

About Commonwealth Fusion Systems: Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy. Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers, suppliers, and many others to build the energy industry of the future. We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised $4 billion of capital, making us the largest and leading fusion company in the world. Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team. If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you. Join the power movement as a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Remote Maintenance CFS is designing ARC as the world’s first commercial fusion power plant with the goal of bringing reliable and clean fusion energy to the grid. Due to device activation and commercial uptime needs, ARC will need periodic, fast, and reliable maintenance to be performed fully remotely. This will require novel solutions and integration in the fields of robotics, remote handling equipment (RHE), plant layout, manufacturing, and tokamak design. ARC’s Remote Maintenance System will thus be a critical aspect of realizing CFS’s mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy. The Remote Maintenance team is responsible for designing ARC’s Remote Maintenance System. As a Senior Remote Maintenance Engineer on the team, you will develop ARC’s maintenance scheme by designing RHE and collaborating with tokamak and plant engineering teams in the design of a maintainable power plant. You will play a key role in ARC’s pre-conceptual design phase along with other teams and navigate complex multi-disciplinary problems involving physics, neutronics, thermo-fluids, structures, maintenance, manufacturing, assembly, techno-economics, and other disciplines. This role also requires proactive R&D in novel remote maintenance technologies.

Join the power movement as a Staff Scientist - Plasma Material Interaction The plasma facing components (PFCs) in SPARC and ARC are the hardware interface between high performance burning plasmas and the entire tokamak. Due to the extreme plasma conditions needed for fusion, the PFCs will see heat and particle loads that far exceed most other domains of science and engineering. The Scientist - Plasma Material Interaction (PMI) provides a critical interface between plasma physics, materials science, and nuclear engineering. The Scientist will be organizationally based in the Plasma Physics Department with designated technical contacts in the Materials Science and Nuclear Engineering Departments. By connecting computational plasma physics models, engineering models, neutronics models, and material models, the Scientist will enable predictive modeling of the coupled evolution of PFC materials and the plasma, across timescales ranging from seconds to years. The ultimate objective of these coupled workflows is to inform the design and operation of the plasma facing components for ARC, a 400MWe fusion power plant to be delivered in the early 2030s. In order to validate and verify the workflows, the Scientist will oversee test campaigns at experimental facilities around the world, exploring PMI and neutron loading. Additionally, the Scientist will have access to Deuterium-Tritium experimental data from the SPARC tokamak, and the predictive workflows will be benchmarked using this CFS data. It is expected that through the aforementioned efforts the Scientist will develop a deep understanding of the material degradation associated with plasma loading and fusion neutron irradiation, and will represent CFS as a world expert in this domain.

Join the power movement as a Senior Process Engineer CFS is looking for a Senior Process Engineer with deep chemical engineering fundamentals and experience designing, scaling up, commissioning, and operating process systems in large industrial facilities. The ideal candidate comes from an industry such as power generation, petrochemical processing, liquefied natural gas (LNG), industrial gases, chemicals, air separation, cryogenic refrigeration, pulp & paper, or another large-scale process industry. You understand how to translate fundamental process requirements into practical industrial systems and have taken designs from early concepts through Front-End Loading (FEL), detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, start-up, and operation. Fusion power plants bring together process technologies that traditionally span multiple industries. At CFS, you will have the opportunity to work across cryogenic systems including helium and nitrogen, power generation and steam systems, molten salt systems, fueling and gas processing, vacuum systems, and process utilities such as cooling water and instrument air. We are looking for an engineer who understands how these systems behave in the real world because they have personally designed, built, commissioned, operated, or troubleshot industrial process equipment. You should be equally comfortable developing a process design basis, building a heat and material balance, sizing equipment, originating and owning P&IDs, leading a HAZOP, walking down installed piping, supporting start-up, and diagnosing why an operating system is not performing as designed.
