Build trust by accurately reflecting scientific intent and constraints in system models, requirements, and architectural decisions. 2. Requirements Co-Evolution & Traceability Facilitate the co-evolution of system requirements as the machine progresses: Start with lightweight, provisional requirements Explicitly document uncertainty, assumptions, and open questions Refine requirements as experimental results and understanding improve Translate scientific goals (e.g., performance, stability, operability) into actionable engineering requirements while preserving necessary flexibility. Establish traceability between: machine-level goals subsystem requirements engineering deliverables (e.g., JIRA epics) Ensure engineers understand the intent behind requirements, not just the wording. 3. System Architecture & Integration Leadership Develop and maintain a living system architecture covering: quantum hardware control electronics and firmware control software and orchestration layers Produce clear, accessible architecture diagrams that reflect reality and evolve with the system. Identify missing architectural elements, poorly defined interfaces, and integration risks early. Lead system-level trade studies and technical decision-making in partnership with engineering and scientific leaders. Ensure architecture reflects machine milestones and not just organizational boundaries. 4. Integration, Test Strategy, and Machine Protection Define and drive a system integration and test strategy appropriate for an evolving R&D machine. Help ensure engineering testbeds match machine configurations as closely as possible. Push integration testing upstream so that machines are not used as primary test platforms. Partner with engineering teams to define validation criteria tied to real machine behavior. Reduce burden on lab teams by improving pre-deployment testing and integration readiness. 5. Early Wins & Trust Building Deliver small, tangible improvements early that directly reduce friction for scientists and engineers, such as: clarifying a recurring interface problem creating a simple integration checklist documenting a failure mode that saves days of debugging Use these wins to establish credibility and reinforce the value of systems engineering. Continuously gather feedback on what is helping vs. slowing teams down, and adapt approach accordingly. 6. Unlearning, Adaptation, and Process Design Actively identify where traditional systems engineering assumptions do not apply to quantum computing. Unlearn rigid models around fixed requirements, early design freezes, and linear development. Introduce process and structure incrementally , calibrated to system maturity. Champion systems thinking without dogma — prioritizing outcomes over formality. 7. Technical Leadership & Mentorship Serve as a technical leader and mentor for engineers and emerging systems thinkers. Help scale system knowledge through documentation, diagrams, and internal education. Contribute to leadership discussions on technical strategy, integration risk, and execution pacing. Qualifications 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or system architecture for complex hardware–software systems. Position overview QuEra Computing Japan is advancing the development of neutral-atom quantum computing systems in collaboration with global engineering teams. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Japan team. This is a deliberately broad, hands-on role for someone who likes being close to the hardware. You will do mechanical design as well as hands-on work on the quantum computer — inspecting, assembling, installing, troubleshooting, and fixing — and the local technical point of contact for the Japanese suppliers and contract manufacturers who build our parts. We are looking for a practical generalist rather than a specialist: comfortable in CAD in the morning, on a machine with a multimeter in the afternoon, and on a call with a supplier about a drawing tolerance the next day. If you want narrow, deep design work, this is not that role. If you want to own the physical reality of a quantum computer on the ground in Japan, it is. Key responsibilities Mechanical design and documentation Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using Autodesk Inventor, managed in Autodesk Vault. Design parts, brackets, enclosures, and assemblies with forethought toward manufacturing and assembly (DfM/DfA), applying GD&T appropriately. Specify, procure, and prepare prototypes; assist with testing and validation. Produce and maintain technical documentation — design requirements and specifications, drawings, assembly instructions, and test reports. Work with cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet performance and manufacturability requirements. Machine support and site reliability Keep deployed systems running: inspection, assembly, installation, and preventive maintenance of quantum computer modules. Identify performance issues, determine root cause, propose correction options with tradeoffs, and implement the fix. During testing, development, and deployment phases, surface issues early and review problems and proposed solutions with the US team. Perform hands-on technical work as needed — wiring, soldering, basic electrical measurement and troubleshooting with a multimeter, assembly, cleaning, and general lab support. We are a startup and everyone touches hardware. Improve serviceability and reliability of the systems over time, feeding lessons learned back into design. Supplier and contract manufacturer interface Act as the local technical interface between QuEra engineering and Japanese suppliers and contract manufacturers — alignment on specifications, manufacturability, and timelines. Support the identification, qualification, and onboarding of Japanese suppliers, in partnership with the US Supply Base Engineering and Supply Chain teams. Ensure supplier documentation packages are complete and current: 3D models, drawings, assembly procedures, test procedures, test reports. Support design, procurement, and assembly of parts and enclosures by third-party vendors. Perform incoming part acceptance inspection and drive resolution when parts don't conform. Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective action for supplier-related quality issues. Help identify high-risk items and acceptable alternate components; support the US team's risk mitigation planning. Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and supplier transitions with minimal disruption to builds. Support supplier readiness during new product introduction (NPI). Ways of working Contribute to a culture of engineering best practices — documentation, configuration control, and disciplined change management. Communicate clearly across a distributed, cross-timezone team. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Approximately 5 years of professional experience in mechanical design, with meaningful hands-on build, installation, or field-service exposure. Proficiency in 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor preferred) and experience with PDM software (Autodesk Vault preferred). Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes — machining, sheet metal, and mechanical assembly. Demonstrated experience working with machine shops and contract manufacturers. Practical electrical skills: soldering, wiring, and basic troubleshooting with a multimeter. Working knowledge of GD&T and DfM/DfA. Familiarity with product lifecycle management and configuration management processes. Business-level Japanese and English. Japanese is required for supplier and contract-manufacturer work; English is required for daily collaboration with the US engineering team. Willingness to travel domestically to supplier and customer sites, and internationally to the US as needed. Self-motivated, strong problem-solving skills, and a genuine team player. Preferred Experience with supplier quality tools and methods (FMEA, 8D, CAPA, PPAP, SPC) — familiarity is valued; certification is not expected. Experience in thermal management and liquid cooling design. Experience with opto-mechanical system design, optics, or lasers. Experience with power electronics systems and infrastructure. Experience with prototype fabrication and testing. Experience with precision metrology or high-performance test equipment. Working knowledge of PLM/ERP/MRP systems. Exposure to lean manufacturing principles. Familiarity with MBSE concepts.

You follow the space because you find it interesting, not because someone staffed you on it. - Loved the intellectual rigor of consulting (the problem-solving, the structured thinking, the team dynamic) but are excited to get rid of the travel grind, the client fire drills, the projects in industries you didn't care about - Taken pride in using primary research (talking to customers, competitors, and experts) to uncover something non-obvious and impactful - Had an itch to build something, not execute a playbook someone else wrote You want - $250K - $280K base compensation - ~20-50%+ cash bonus - Significant pre-Series A equity (restricted stock — the most favorable structure for early employees) - 100% employer-paid benefits - New York City, in-office 4-5 days/week (625 Broadway) - Founding-stage team — your work shapes the product, the methodology, and the company

Founding Engineering Lead About Altis Altis provides independent, institutional-grade diligence research on Series A and later-stage companies for venture investors. Private investors are beginning to rely on the proprietary research, experts, and data that is only available on the Altis platform. The team pairs MBB-caliber diligence training with advanced AI to create high-quality work faster and at a lower cost than traditional methods. About the Role Altis is growing their Founding Engineering team to help drive their product offerings and own different parts of the tech stack. You'll report directly to the CEO, partner with our existing engineering team on architecture and roadmap, and help build the team from 2 engineers today toward roughly 10. The biggest gap you'll be closing on day one: bringing a product mindset to our roadmap that’s deeply tied to speeding up our research processes. New York City - in-person; 4 days a week expected. What You'll Do - Help share and own the roadmap and delivery of Altis' internal research-enablement tooling - sit with the research and sourcing teams to understand their real workflows, with a goal of meaningfully cutting the time it takes them to produce a report - Commit to delivery dates for engineering's key initiatives, hit them, or flag slippage early and clearly - Partner with our existing engineering team on architecture decisions, including Altis's move toward direct API/MCP access for customers - Report directly to the CEO as a technical thought partner on product and roadmap tradeoffs - Stand up the engineering processes (planning, review, ownership) a growing team needs - Help design and run the technical interview process as the team scales What You Bring - A track record of shipping software that is an excellent product that its intended users actually adopted, not just software shipped to spec - Comfort owning and communicating delivery timelines, including flagging risk before it becomes a surprise - Strong communication skills with both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders, including a CEO - Experience with AI-native, LLM- or RAG-powered products Nice to Haves - Experience leading and scaling engineering teams, ideally at an early-stage (seed/Series A) startup - rather than a background primarily at a large/big tech company - Exposure to designing external API or MCP-style developer surfaces - Comfort evaluating and evolving an existing codebase and architecture built by an early engineering team What You'll Get - Competitive cash and equity compensation, commensurate with experience and scope - A direct reporting line to the CEO and real ownership over key engineering and product decisions. - A ground-floor seat at a fast-growing, recently-funded research company with early customer traction across venture and institutional investors - A New York City-based team What We Value We believe confident nonsense is worse than honest ambiguity. Altis operates with the same rigor and transparency in how we build our own tools as we do in the research we sell - full ownership, clear communication, and no shortcuts on the truth.

ABOUT ALTIS Altis is a venture intelligence platform that helps investors make faster, better decisions on Series A/B/C companies. We conduct deep primary research — expert interviews with customers, competitors, and industry specialists — to build the analysis that drives investment committee decisions. We’re backed by Primary Venture Partners, co-founded by a Midas-list investor, and scaling quickly. We’re a lean, high-ownership team building from the ground up. If you want to be close to the action in venture and learn how the best investors and operators think, this is the role. ABOUT THE ROLE The Network & Client Services team is the engine of the Altis research process. As an Associate, you’ll identify, engage, and recruit industry experts whose insights help fuel our research and help clients uncover information they cannot access elsewhere. This is a frontline role: you’ll be on the phone and in your inbox daily, building relationships with some of the most interesting people across the fastest-growing, AI-native startups in the world. You won’t be filing reports. You’ll be building a network. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR You’re early in your career but not early in your ambition. You’ve spent 1–3 years in a role that required you to hustle — sales, business development, recruiting, consulting, or something in between. You know how to pick up the phone, take initiative, and follow through. You’ll thrive here if you: - Are energized by working toward goals on a tight timeline - Can quickly earn trust with sophisticated, high-caliber professionals - Are naturally curious about AI, startups, and venture capital, and want to understand the ecosystem deeply - Operate with urgency and take ownership of outcomes, not just activity - Are organized enough to manage a pipeline without losing the human side of relationship building - Bring humility and an eagerness to learn WHAT YOU’LL DO - Source and identify industry experts whose backgrounds match the needs of each research project - Run high-volume outreach by phone and email to engage and recruit experts on tight timelines - Qualify experts and schedule them into client conversations, managing logistics end to end - Maintain an organized pipeline of prospects, keeping follow-through tight so opportunities don’t go cold - Build lasting relationships with experts so they return for future research REQUIREMENTS - 1–3 years of experience in a client-facing or outbound role (investment research, expert networks, recruiting, BD, or similar) - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Track record of hitting targets in a metrics-driven environment - Bachelor’s degree - Authorization to work in the United States Bonus points for: - Experience managing external stakeholders in prior roles - Familiarity with expert network or knowledge services businesses (AlphaSights, GLG, Tegus, etc.) - Existing relationships in VC, PE, or operator communities COMPENSATION & BENEFITS - $110,000-$130,000 on target earnings - Meaningful ownership from day 1 - pre-Series A stock options struck at today's early-stage valuation, so you share directly in the upside you help build - 100% employer-paid health benefits - 401K program - Free lunch daily in-office - New York City — in-office 4 days/week WHY JOIN ALTIS We view the Associate position as a career-defining launchpad, not just a starting point. We’re committed to your growth and invest deeply in our team: - Venture ecosystem exposure — unparalleled access to early-stage investors, frontier tech, and the founders building the future economy. - Career growth — direct ownership of client outcomes, project management, and high-stakes research for the world’s top investors, with a clearly defined path to running your own book of business and team within 24–30 months. - Shape our future — as part of the founding team, your work shapes the product, the strategy, and the culture of the company. - Exceptional colleagues — our team combines experience across investing, consulting, technology, and research.
