Titanium Birch logoJob

Titanium Birch

Titanium Birch isn’t your typical investment firm. Started by one of the co-founders of ExpressVPN, we’re a small, multidisciplinary team building an investment firm from the ground up. Software is deeply integrated into how we research, invest, and operate. As we develop better ways to understand businesses and markets, we turn those ideas into software, automation, and AI, continually improving how the firm operates and makes decisions. We've already built a systematic, factor-tilted public equities portfolio from strategy through implementation, automated accounting and reconciliation that passes audits, and developed increasingly systematic ways to approach venture investing . We want to go much further. We’re looking for someone with a mix of engineering chops and genuine interest in investing . You might be an engineer who invests on the side, or an investor or operator who has learned to code. The key thing is that you can take an ambiguous problem, get to the heart of what matters, and work with others to build a useful solution. You don’t need a finance background. You do need good judgment, strong communication, broad curiosity, and the ability to use modern tools thoughtfully and effectively. Does this sound like you? You’re comfortable writing code and equally interested in discussing how we might allocate capital. You love learning how businesses, systems, and people work. You use AI effectively to explore ideas, accelerate execution, and improve the quality of your thinking. You’re resourceful. When faced with something unfamiliar, you figure it out. You notice when something is clunky, unclear, or broken — and want to improve it. You communicate clearly, ask good questions, and work well with people from different backgrounds. You live in Singapore (or are returning home) and expect to stay for the foreseeable future. What will I be doing? You'll help us build better systems for how Titanium Birch operates, learns, and makes decisions. That might mean: Building systems that support investment decisions in public markets. Creating a knowledge engine that turns messy information from fund managers and external sources into something our team can act on quickly and confidently. Working across investing, operations, finance, and data to identify bottlenecks and design better ways of working. Systematizing recurring work such as reporting, reconciliation, due diligence, research, and portfolio monitoring. Improving the reliability, visibility, and usability of the systems we already depend on, and building new tools, automations, and workflows where they help. Evaluating vendors, software, and processes with sound judgment about trade-offs. Writing clear documentation so good ideas become shared infrastructure. Turning fuzzy, high-context problems into well-scoped projects with useful outcomes. This is not a narrow role. Your scope will evolve with your strengths and with what the organization needs most. Over time, you might take ownership of increasingly important systems, problem areas, or even part of the portfolio itself. The breadth of the role is intentional. You’ll work closely with the rest of the team and have the time and space to build expertise as your scope grows. What success looks like in your first 6 months You’ve identified and solved at least one meaningful organizational problem end-to-end. You’ve shipped an automation, tool, or workflow that saves time, improves quality, or reduces operational risk. You’ve built trust across the team by communicating clearly, exercising good judgment, and following through. You’ve made at least one core process simpler, clearer, or more reliable. Some examples of what that first project might look like: Understanding how corporate lifecycles affect valuations over time and incorporating that into our public equities portfolio construction. Improving an AI agent that helps us process information from current and potential private-market investments. What’s in it for me? Real investing scope. You’ll work on problems that directly affect how we allocate capital and evaluate investments. Interesting problems. You might build public-markets decision systems, create tools for evaluating startups and VC funds, or redesign how part of the organization operates. Ownership. We’re a small team, so strong performers can take responsibility for increasingly important problems. Learning. You’ll develop judgment by working close to real decisions, not just support tasks. Good colleagues. You’ll work with thoughtful, capable people who care about doing good work. Sustainable pace. We work normal hours, without regular after-hours firefighting. Requirements Must have: Genuine interest in investing, businesses, or decision-making under uncertainty. Experience building, improving, or running systems, tools, or processes that other people depend on. Strong written and verbal communication. Technical fluency to build, adapt, and improve tools and workflows yourself. Strong judgment and follow-through. You can make sense of an ambiguous problem and drive it to a useful outcome. Ability to work well with others and build trust across functions. Curiosity and range. You can move across disciplines and get up to speed quickly in unfamiliar areas. Ability to use modern tools, including AI, to solve problems thoughtfully and effectively. Nice to have: Experience with Python, AWS, or infrastructure as code. Experience building internal tools, decision-support systems, or operational workflows. Experience working with messy, real-world data. Familiarity with testing, monitoring, and reliability. Interest in IT, security, or data quality. Administrative: Based in Singapore. We don’t offer international relocation. If you need an Employment Pass, we can sponsor it, but you must already be in Singapore. You’ll work primarily from our office in downtown Singapore. Extensive reference checks are part of our process. Benefits Refer to our employee handbook for details about performance management, compensation, and learning. Privacy We’ll never contact your references without consent. Want your data deleted? Email privacy@titaniumbirch.com

About Us We are building quantum computing systems that push the boundary of what is physically possible. Doing so requires a rare combination of scientific depth, engineering rigor, and operational maturity. Our Quantum Control Platform sits at the heart of this effort, translating physics breakthroughs into executable engineering across hardware, software, optics, embedded systems, and automation. As we scale, we are looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to serve as the operational backbone between our quantum physics research team and our multi-disciplinary engineering organization. This is not a traditional software product role. You will operate at the intersection of complex hardware development and modern agile delivery, making them work together in a physics-constrained environment. The Role Requirements Translation & Traceability You will work directly with quantum physicists to extract scientific intent — goals such as enabling a logical non-Clifford gate, achieving specific QPU-level performance milestones, or meeting target fidelity thresholds — and translate them into structured, executable engineering requirements. You will: Build full traceable requirement hierarchies from top-level physics goals down to subsystem specifications Cover domains including control electronics, embedded systems, optics, calibration workflows, and automation Define clear acceptance criteria and validation plans at every level Ensure no critical requirement lives informally in someone’s head Your work will create clarity where complexity currently dominates. Documentation Discipline & Governance You will own and elevate the requirements process, not just participate in it. This includes: Defining standardized requirement templates Establishing definition-of-ready and definition-of-done criteria Implementing milestone readiness frameworks Institutionalizing documentation governance within Jira and Confluence Ensuring proper decomposition, traceability, ownership, and auditability You will introduce structure without bureaucracy — building systems that accelerate execution rather than slow it down. Agile Delivery Partnership Engineering owns delivery. You will be their strongest product partner. You will: Structure requirements so they are consumable by agile hardware and software teams Decompose physics goals into Jira epics and stories while preserving validation rigor Participate fluently in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives Operate effectively in hybrid delivery environments where hardware constraints meet agile cadence You understand where agile breaks in hardware environments — and how to adapt it without becoming dogmatic or reverting to rigid sequential processes. Stakeholder Alignment & Process Maturity You will align scientists, hardware engineers, and software engineers around shared execution frameworks. This role requires: Translating between research language and engineering execution models in real time Surfacing unstated assumptions in scientific requirements Challenging habits constructively Raising the overall maturity of technical product management across the organization You lead through credibility and demonstrated value — not mandate. What We’re Looking For 8–15+ years of experience in technical product management within deep-tech, hardware-centric, multi-disciplinary environments Background in industries where precision and traceability are non-negotiable, such as: Photonics and optical systems (e.g., Coherent, Lumentum, II-VI) Lidar and sensing (e.g., Luminar, Ouster) Defense and aerospace with photonics or directed energy programs Scientific instrumentation (e.g., Thorlabs, Newport) Semiconductor capital equipment (e.g., ASML, Applied Materials) Fusion energy, advanced aerospace, or modern defense companies (e.g., SpaceX, Anduril, Joby) You have: Personally built requirements governance frameworks, not just operated within them Demonstrated end-to-end requirement traceability from high-level goals to subsystem specifications Defined acceptance criteria and validation plans across complex systems Deep fluency in Jira and Confluence Experience with dedicated requirements management tools such as Jama or Aha Strong technical grounding in physics, electrical engineering, optics, or related fields The ability to engage meaningfully with PhD-level scientists and systems engineers You are: A mature, credible operator who earns trust quickly Comfortable introducing process discipline in high-intellect environments Comfortable working in ambiguity while building structure On-site in Boston and thrive in fast, whiteboard-heavy collaboration Nice to Have Direct experience with quantum computing hardware or quantum software stacks Familiarity with neutral atom systems Experience with optical system integration, laser control, or free-space beam control Familiarity with calibration workflows, qubit characterization, or QPU benchmarking Experience building or scaling a technical product management function What Success Looks Like in Year One A fully traceable requirement hierarchy from physics goals to subsystem specifications Engineering teams executing against documented requirements with clear acceptance criteria Governance frameworks embedded in Jira and Confluence and operating sustainably Measurable improvement in organizational requirements maturity Scientists and engineers describing the requirements process as a source of clarity, not overhead If you thrive at the intersection of frontier science and disciplined engineering execution — and want to help build quantum systems that redefine what computation can do — we would love to talk. As QuEra scales from individual machine development to a cohesive platform, this role will ensure that requirements are clearly specified, validation protocols are established, and system builds proceed predictably. By bringing structure, visibility, and technical coherence to our process, this person will enable teams to deliver high-performance machines efficiently, collaboratively, and with minimal rework. Salary: $170,000-250,000QuEra is committed to cultivating a diverse work environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We highly value diversity in our current and future employees and do not discriminate (including in our hiring and promotion practices) based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or any other characteristic protected by law. #LI-NB1
