Are you ready to take on unprecedented challenges and contribute to revolutionising technology? Join us, and let's shape the future of quantum computing together! The PhD project Cat qubits exponentially suppress bit-flip errors, which means the error-correcting codes that protect them don’t have to be built like everyone else’s. Designing codes that exploit this noise bias is one of the most direct levers to shrink the hardware cost of a useful quantum computer, and it is exactly what this PhD is about. The PhD project “Code construction & logic for biased-noise qubits,” one of 15 doctoral projects of QuBriC, the first European MSCA Doctoral Network entirely dedicated to quantum error correction (call HORIZON-MSCA-2025-DN-01-01), bridging classical coding theory and quantum hardware. Hosted in Alice & Bob’s Error Correction team and supervised by Dr Christophe Vuillot, you will develop high-rate, biased-noise-adapted QEC codes and logical-gate protocols using lifted-product and asymmetric-distance constructions, co-design logical operations, and validate your designs through hardware-in-the-loop simulations and small-scale cat-qubit experiments. Your results feed directly into Alice & Bob’s roadmap toward a fault-tolerant quantum computer and into the network’s shared QEC-hardware map, including an open online library of codes and logical protocols for biased-noise qubits. Your doctoral degree will be awarded by Sorbonne Université and you will be co-supervised by Mike Vasmer (Inria Paris).

As our nanofabrication moves from 2-inch to 4-inch wafers, this step weighs more and more on test time. In this internship, you will design and test the tools and procedures that make chip alignment faster and more reliable, and you will help the nanofabrication team scale up. The role You join as a Tool Owner and hands-on production engineer on the deposition and etch scope: superconductor deposition, metal evaporation (including shadow-angle evaporation), and dry etching. These are the long-run tools the weekly output depends on — when a chamber goes down, the line feels it within a day. You're accountable for a defined set of tools: their uptime, maintenance, utilization, and the qualified recipes that run on them at industrial cadence. For each tool, you form a binome with a Process Owner from Process Development Engineering — you own the asset and its execution, they own the recipe and its process window; you solve the hard problems and qualify operators together. You're joining a team at its creation, reporting to the Cleanroom Operations Manager. You'll build the operation rather than inherit one. Two Tool Owner positions are open in parallel — one on lithography, one on deposition and etching. If your experience spans both, apply to whichever fits best; the team will route you accordingly.

The role We've just built a cleanroom in Aubervilliers dedicated to the fabrication of superconducting quantum devices — a step change in our wafer capacity and in how fast we can iterate on qubit designs. The Cleanroom Operations team, created now, owns the throughput of that line. You join as a Tool Owner and hands-on production engineer on the lithography scope: electron-beam and laser lithography, resist processing — coating, bake, development, stripping — and wet processing. It's the scope with the highest number of process steps in the flow and the tightest coupling to cycle time; when it slips, everything slips. You're accountable for a defined set of tools: their uptime, their maintenance, their utilization, and the qualified recipes that run on them at industrial cadence. Reporting to the HERMES Team Lead, our electronics and systems integration team, you'll design, build and validate test setups and characterization benches — and, where existing commercial solutions fall short, design custom RF hardware (power amplifiers, LNAs, filters, bias tees) — to guarantee that every piece of equipment meets the precision and scalability needs of our quantum chip design teams.

About the Mission Alice & Bob's current 48-qubit generation was hand-drawn — the next generations won't be. As we scale toward 1,000-, 10,000-, and eventually million-qubit chips, manual layout stops being an option: it doesn't scale, and it caps how fast we can iterate. This role exists to build the infrastructure — PDK, generators, automated flows — that lets chip complexity grow 10–1,000× while design cycle time stays flat. About the Role You'll build the layout infrastructure that makes that scaling possible — PDK, layout compilers, parasitic extraction, hierarchical verification, and mask generation. This is a semiconductor physical-design role applied to superconducting hardware, not a quantum physics one.
