About

Flat6Labs is a prominent startup accelerator and venture capital firm that operates across several cities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The accelerator was established in Cairo in 2011. Flat6Labs assists entrepreneurs in the early stages of their startups with mentoring, funding, and a multitude of other resources.

The accelerator runs a four-month program twice a year in each of its locations. Selected startups receive seed funding, strategic mentorship, office space, a multitude of perks and services from partners worth over $300,000, and entrepreneurship-focused business training and workshops. The program concludes with a Demo Day where entrepreneurs have the opportunity to pitch to investors and industry leaders.

Several success stories have emerged from Flat6Labs. One example is Nafham, an edtech startup that provides educational video lessons for K-12 students, which was part of Flat6Labs Cairo’s first cycle in 2012. Another example is Instabug, a software company that provides bug and crash reporting services for mobile apps, that was also part of Flat6Labs Cairo’s first cycle. Instabug has subsequently raised more than $7 million in funding.

Flat6Labs has also implemented initiatives that set them apart. For instance, the accelerator worked with the World Bank through its Innovative Private Sector Development (IPSD) umbrella program to establish a startup accelerator program in Tunisia. They have also partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to launch 'The Next 100 African Startups Initiative'.

Flat6Labs has positioned itself as a key player in the region's startup and VC ecosystem thanks to its efforts to nurture startups and promote innovation. Through the years, it has involved a network of successful founders, investors, and mentors who have contributed significantly to its initiatives. For instance, Hany Al Sonbaty, a co-founder of Flat6Labs, is also a co-founder of Sawari Ventures, a leading venture capital firm in the MENA region.

Flat6Labs is noteworthy for its broad geographic coverage in the MENA region and beyond, its connections to the global startup ecosystem, and its consistent promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation.
