Overview
Mentor Driven Capital is a free online course on the VC4A Startup Academy, the learning platform run by VC4A for founders and mentors in Africa and Latin America. VC4A describes it as the first dedicated training program for African business professionals who want to guide the continent's up and coming entrepreneurs. The idea behind the name is that business angels offer more than money: a mentor shares the knowledge, experience and network built over a career, while also improving the return on any investment.
The stated goal is to boost the learner's ability as a high-powered mentor to support entrepreneurs while learning to think and act like a savvy business angel. The course has nine modules of about 20 minutes each, taught in English, with theoretical intro videos presented by Andrew Sekandi of Sofala Partners and expert insights from angel investors and operators including Tomi Davies of Lagos Angel Network, Stephen Gugu of Viktoria Ventures, Peter Cowley of the European Angel Network and Abu Cassim of Jozi Angels.
Learners pass by reading or viewing all modules and finishing the quiz. A free VC4A account is required to enroll. The Academy lists more than 2,600 people who have started the course, and the course page shows ratings based on more than 2,500 votes.
