Overview

The Private Sector Fusion Engagement (PSFE) project was launched by the ITER Organization in November 2024 to foster collaboration between ITER and private fusion companies. It stresses that public and private fusion efforts are complementary, and shares ITER's decades of experience designing and building a fusion reactor.

Its elements include public-private fusion workshops (May 2024, April 2025 and April 2026), the ITER Engineering Basis Handbook (all chapters due by the end of 2026), access to the ITER Document Management System under IP-protective agreements for companies in ITER Member countries, open-sourcing the IMAS and PCSSP simulation codes, cooperation agreements, catalogues of fusion experts, facilities and suppliers, site visits and expert consultations, access to ITPA topical groups, and use of test facilities such as the Magnet Cold Test Facility.

A PSFE Help Desk coordinates requests for documents, experts and technical questions.

Who it is for

Private fusion companies and startups, especially those based in ITER Member countries (required for document access). Suppliers, research institutes and investors take part in the workshops.

There is no cohort. Contact the PSFE Help Desk to request documents, expert consultations, site visits or facility access; requests are routed to the relevant ITER divisions. Document access requires an IP-protective agreement.
